Report on 31st Annual Convention of Warrier Samajam

The 31st Annual Convention of Warrier Samajam was held at Trivandrum on 23rd & 24th May 2009. The Warrier community members from all over Kerala and delegates from abroad and various States of India attended the Convention.

The events of 23rd May 2009 began at 5 AM with Ganapathi Homam, followed by registration of members and flag hoisting. The President, Mr. M.K. Chakrapani Warrier and the General Secretary, Mr. P.V. Muralidharan provided an electrifying speech welcoming the members and distinguished guests. It was followed by tabling of 2008-09 Income-Expenditure reports concerning the establishments operating under Kerala Warrier Samajam, such as Akshaya & Theerthum Press. The budget forecast for the financial year 2009-10 was also presented by the Treasurer. The delegates from various units were allocated time to express their grievances and opinion for the consideration of the new Governing Committee to be elected.

His Highness Uttraadum Thirunal Marthanda Varma Maharaja Thirumanasu inaugurated the Convention by lighting the lamp. Padmashree P.K. Warrier, Managing Trustee & Chief Physician, Kottakal Arya Vaidya Sala and Padmashree P.R. Krishna Kumar, Managing Director, Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, Coimbatore were felicitated during the occasion.

The Trivandrum unit of Warrier Samajam also released the souvenir during the occasion.

The Youth wing of Warrier Samajam organized (a) blood donation camp for donating to Regional Cancer Centre, Trivandrum, (b) blood grouping and testing, with the assistance of Amrita Institute of Medical Science of Kollam district. The exhibition of photographs of Mr. Anil Warrier was commendable.

The cultural events were inaugurated by the Film Star, Shri Madhu, who informed to the delight of members present that his mother’s father was a Warrier. He emphasised that one does not become a Warrier by virtue of being born to a Warrier family. One needs to attain it by virtue of his/her deeds and practice.

The Women’s wing of Trivandrum unit of Warrier Samajam performed Thiruvathira dance, which was followed by a Bharathanatyam performance by Smt. Rajashree Warrier. The various units of Warrier Samajam also presented a cultural feat with song and dance numbers, which went on till mid-night. The Women’s wing also managed the stalls erected for the sale of home-made snacks prepared by them.

The second day events began at 7 AM with the Women’s wing of Trivandrum unit organizing a “Samskarika Ghosha Yatra”, Malakettu Malsarum (competition) and Bhajans.

The meeting of World Confederation of Warriers (WCW) began at 9 AM, which was attended by various invited delegates from Coimbatore, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Bahrain and Dubai. Welcome speech was provided by Mr. Suresh Warrier, Convener, followed by a speech of President, Mr. R.C. Warrier, Trivandrum unit. Mr. C. Sarathchandran, Director, Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce, inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp. The following delegates provided a speech during the occasion.

The Constitution of WCW, which was finalized a day before, was passed and endorsed as final in the meeting. A Governing Body was also appointed with a tenure of 1 year period.

The meeting of Youth Convention was presided over by Mr. K. Gopakumar Warrier, Dy Director, NIIST, CSIR, following the meeting of WCW. He provided a stirring speech on the importance of drawing members from youth community for the success of any organization.

The meeting of Women’s Convention was inaugurated by Justice Smt. D. Sreedevi, Chairperson, Women’s Commission, wherein she educated the members present on the various rights of women enshrined in our judicial system.

An orphanage for physically and/ or mentally challenged children were greeted with lunch which was joined by Justice Smt. D. Sreedevi.

The elections to the Governing Body for the year 2009-10 was held and the following is the list of new office bearers.

- President - Mr. T.V. Balachandran (Thrissur)
- General Secretary - Mr. P.V. Muralidharan (Palakkad)
- Treasurer - Mr. P.K.R. Warrier (Thrissur)
